Talking Art and Artifice on Expanding Mind

2/14/2015

On Thursday February 12, I joined Erik Davis and Maja D'Aoust for an episode of their excellent podcast EXPANDING MIND to talk about RECLAIMING ART. Erik is the author of the cult classic TECHGNOSIS, soon to be reissued by North Atlantic Books. He has long been a hero of mine for the strength of his writing, his incisive mind, and his courage to chase the weird horizon.

The highlight of the podcast for me is the story Erik tells at the very beginning. I found that it captured perfectly the concept of the "rift" that I develop in the fifth chapter of the book. The image of the homeless man's knife spinning on the sidewalk, shooting off flashes of sunlight like beacons from another world, will continue to haunt and delight me long after the interview becomes a distant memory. That's the power of the rift.
